List comprehensions let you create lists in a single, readable line by combining an expression with a loop and an optional condition. They are excellent for transforming or filtering data.

new_list = [expression for item in iterable if condition]

Example:

squares = [x * x for x in range(1, 6)]
print(squares)  # Output: [1, 4, 9, 16, 25]
